Named after Melina Mercouri’s 1960 movie, Never on Sunday, Pote Tin Kyriaki is a cozy taverna in the Old Town of Kos, which serves delicious mezes, made with love. We are particularly fond of their steamed mussels and stuffed zucchini flowers, but seriously, any dish is just delicious here. Don’t hesitate to try the Tsipouro, although be aware that it is quite strong. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual and you may be lucky enough to catch a live music performance. It doesn’t get any more traditional than this.

Located in Kos’ second largest port, Mastichari, Kali Kardia is a fish taverna and ouzeria (an establishment that sells ouzo and related liquors as well as small portions of food). Nothing fancy here, Kali Kardia is simply an excellent place to eat, thanks to its friendly staff, good food and great prices. And sometimes, that’s all you need. Besides, ideal for people watching, Kali Kardia is the best spot to wait for your ferry to Kalymnos.
